Small comment about NHL

December 27, 2006 Leave a comment

I know I’m not supposed to post about NHL here, but just couldn’t resist commenting on the new schedule that emphasizes rivalries by increasing the number of games played within the division. Well, the intention is understandable, but only if divisions are well balanced. Lets look at point differentials between first and last teams in each division, shall we now?

PACIFIC 62-28=34
CENTRAL 53-27=26
ATLANTIC 43-20=23
NORTHEAST 55-37=18
SOUTHEAST 50-33=17

NORTHWEST 38-37=1

(as of December 27, 2006)

Sigh.

Update: Guess what, things just aren’t getting much better, the only consolation being that Canucks jumped from 11th to 3rd in the conference with a single win due to this tight layout of a NW division.  How’s this for a point breakdown:

VANCOUVER  39
COLORADO  38
EDMONTO  38
MINNESOTA  38
CALGARY  38

NORTHWEST 39-38=1
